National Breeders’ (Pony) Futurity And Four & Five – Year Old Sweepstakes
Open to offspring of nominated stallions and mares. Ponies may show as weanlings, yearlings, two-year-olds in hand: two-year-olds and three-year-olds in harness with three-year-olds showing as Hackneys (cobtails), harness (long tails), roadster or pleasure ponies. Four-year-olds and five-year-olds showing as Hackneys roadsters 13 hands (52″) or under, Hackney Pony 14.2 hands or under shall be shown in harness to a four-wheel-vehicle with short braided mane (or appearance thereof) and short tail, Harness Pony 12.2 hands or under shall be shown in harness to a four-wheel vehicle with long mane and tail, and Pleasure Pony 14.2 hands or under shall be shown to a two-wheel jog cart with long or short natural tail and unbraided mane. Prizes, earning potential, and national recognition make this program popular with breeders and owners. Several regional Hackney associations also sponsor futurities which allow youngsters to earn substantial premiums early.
At the time of nominations the owner must provide social security or employer identification number. Failure to provide the number will result in backup withholding on prize money.
Entries are to be made with the approved show in order to compete.
Nomination payments can be made without registering the Hackney with the Society; however, in order to show DNA verification and registration are required by June 10th of the year showing.
Hackneys showing in the AHHS National Breeders’ Futurity will be subject to DNA verification following the class. Any prize money won will be retained until parentage is verified by DNA testing.
AHHS membership must be current as of June 10th, in the year of competition, in order to participate in the show. Owner, co-owners, handlers, and judges are all required to be American Hackney Horse Society members.
Eligibility
All foals must be the produce of registered stallions and mares that have been nominated in the AHHS National Breeders’ Futurity.
* The stallion must be registered in the American Hackney Stud Book.
* The nomination fee of $50 must be paid to the AHHS on or before April 15th of the year the foal is due to be born.
* In the event a stallion is nominated by more than one party, the Stallion Owner’s nomination takes precedence over the other nominator.
* The stallion must be DNA certified before the foal can be registered.
* In the year of nomination, if two foals are expected to be registered from the same mare (embryo transfer foals or twins), both foals will be eligible for the weanling nominations; one dam nomination fee of $10 shall be due on or before April 15th but two weanling nominations fees will be due on or before July 1st if eligibility of both foals is to be maintained.
* The dam must be DNA certified before the foal can be registered.
Weanling Division
* The sire and dam must be nominated in the year in which the foal is born.
* The foal must have application and fees for registration sent to the AHHS office by June 10th (postmarked June 10th or earlier) in order to show in the Weanling Class.
* Application and payment for DNA kit must be postmarked and received in the AHHS office by June 10th of the year showing.
* DNA test kits must be mailed the University of California at Davis by June 24th (postmarked) in order to show in the Weanling Class.
* Provided the above requirements are met, DNA parent verification is not required to show, however DNA parent verification results will be required before prize money is distributed.
* The nomination fee of $35 must be paid on or before July 1st.
* The entries in this division (colt and filly class) shall be shown in-hand, lead halter with natural tail, judged 50% on conformation and 50% on performance.
Yearling Division
* The Yearling must have been nominated in the Weanling Division and all conditions and requirements fulfilled.
* In order to show in the Yearling Division the yearling must be registered and have DNA parent verification on file by June 10th of the Yearling year if not previously done.
* The first nomination fee of $15 is due on or before February 15th, the second nomination fee of $20 is due on or before April 15th. Full payment maybe made on or before February 15th. Payments are required to maintain eligibility in the program.
* The entries in this division (colt and filly class) shall be shown in-hand, lead halter, or lead bridle (natural or set tail), judged 50% conformation, and 50% performance.
2-Year-Old Division
* The 2-Year-Old must have been nominated in the Weanling and Yearling Divisions and all conditions and requirements fulfilled.
* In order to show, the 2-Year-Old must be registered and have DNA parent verification on file by June 10th of the 2-Year-Old year, if not previously done.
* The first nomination fee of $15 is due on or before February 15th, the second nomination fee of $20 is due on or before April 15th. Full payment maybe made on or before February 15th. Payments are required to maintain eligibility in the program.
* In-hand (colt and filly) entries shall be shown in halter or lead bridle tack optional for stallions and geldings), and judged 50% conformation and 50% performance.
* In harness, the 2-Year-Old will be shown to a four-wheel-vehicle, to be judged on quality, presence, performance, and manners.
* Nominees may enter both classes but are permitted to show in only one.
3-Year-Old Division
* The 3-Year-Old must have been nominated in the Weanling, Yearling, and 2-Year-Old Divisions and all conditions and requirements fulfilled.
* In order to show, the 3-Year-Old must be registered and have DNA parent verification on file in the AHHS officeby June 10th (postmarked) of the 3-Year-Old year, if not previously done.
