U.S. Dressage Federation – Breeder of the Year Program

The award is designed so that small as well as large breeders can participate. A breeder with at least two horses in either the performance or dressage sport horse breeding categories can qualify. If a breeder has more than five horses participating in either category, only the scores from the top five will count for this award. Breeders can be foreign or from the United States. However, to be eligible, a breeder must join USDF as a Participating member, Business member or Group Member Organization member by the end of the competition year in question. In other words, to be eligible for 2007 award year, breeders must be a USDF member by September 30th.

Breeders are reminded to check their USDF “Breeder’s Portfolio” on the USDF web site, www.usdf.org, to ensure that all horses they have bred that compete in performance or in-hand classes are in their “portfolio” list. The ‘breeder” is the person legal entity listed on the horse’s registration papers. For this award, USDF cannot combine horses “bred” by a farm with horses “bred” by one or more owners of the farm; each is a separate “breeder” entity.

A change in the name of the recorded breeder can only be authorized and performed as an official entry on the registration paper by the registry that issued the registry papers on file with USDF. A copy of the amended registration papers must be submitted to USDF prior to any changes in the USDF database.
