E. Lawrence Carss Memorial 16th Annual Limited Breeders' Weanling Stakes Stallion Service Auction Totalled $34,000.00 before Buy Backs and Sustaining Payments

Although severe storms threatened the area on Friday, Saturday, March 3, 2012 dawned sunny and cool at Undulata Farm, Shelbyville, KY. The historic and picturesque farm was the home for the day of the AHHS Grand Event-A day of clinics, a premier stallion preview, dinner and stallion auction for the Limited Breeders' Weanling Stakes program.

Three clinics were presented for educating the public and current owners & fans of the Hackney Pony. Maureen & Rich Campbell presented a clinic on the beginning juvenile/amateur driver with help from 8 year old Astrid Mayer and ended with a lesson for a first time driver Marie Schut of Hudsonville, MI.

Vern Houston presented a clinic on Showing In Hand. Beginning with selection of the foal, training, shoeing and presentation to progressing through the 2 year old classes and sharing in the knowledge he has gained in 50 years of showing, he gave great pointers to responsibilities of the header and trailer as well.

Vern Houston and Rodney Hicks then shared their perspectives as an amateur and professional respectively on their preparation of the 3 year old especially as they related to the newer 3 year old LBS classes.

Rounding out the afternoon, was a panel of Randy Harper, Rodney Hicks, Rich Campbell and Andy Freseth answering questions, sharing information and telling some great stories--on themselves!! Great fun!

During the break following, tours of the stately Undulata home were available to those who wanted the total Undulata experience while members of the AHHS prepared for the premier Stallion Preview featuring 7 of the best known stallions of our breed. Kilbro's Image, Dun-Haven Phenomenal, Crystal Creek's Commander, Benjamin Button, Extremely Fine, The Spiderman and ending with the multi-titled Heartland Equality. Out of retirement at age 16, he could enter the show ring tomorrow as he trotted and showed off for the crowd. Equality was our feature stallion for the Grand Event and it is only the second time his breeding has been offered to the public. The final bid on the 49th stallion in the auction went to Dan Bielser of Biggsville, IL for $6100.00. This total will be added to the 2016 3-Year-Old class for the LBS program.

All this excitement was then followed by a delicious dinner catered by Claudia Sanders Dinner House of Shelbyville, KY. Regional associations graciously donated theme baskets for our silent auction as well as many other items. Live auction items were interspersed with the stallion services for everyone's enjoyment.

In our late nite lounge area, attendees were able to unwind with a night cap and listen to a bluegrass band, NO TOOLS LOANED as they ended their evening.

Through the generosity of Edward Bennett sharing his beautiful facility, the AHHS was able to share an action-packed day filled with the Hackney in all aspects, this event was coordinated by Judy Lowry, former president and long-time Board member of the AHHS and Rodney Hicks, Chairman of the LBS committee.

All this would not have been possible without our Corporate Sponsors Saddle Horse Report and Horse World. Many Thanks also goes out to UPHA Chapter 14 for their generous donation and the help of our many devoted volunteers.
